Demeter ~ Ageless ~ Goddess of the Harvest and Fertility
Goddess of the Harvest and Fertility, Demeter has always had a big heart. She is compassionate, loyal to her loved ones, and feels things very deeply. Some might call her weak or overly emotional, but she doesn't mind. After all, better to feel everything than feel nothing at all. It allows her to be empathetic to those around her, understand their happiness and sorrows and assist them accordingly should they call on her. Helping brings her great joy, seeing the smiles of overwhelming happiness of others as they succeed in their harvest or conception of a child. Nothing feels better. She is also a very dedicated and patient woman who will stop at nothing to protect her loved ones.
People know her as the nurturer and the rescuer. She provides support and protection for those who need it, and nurtures and loves them as her own children. Though in turn she can also be over protective and slightly over bearing in her desire to protect. She will try to keep people from doing things if she fears it will harm them, often smothering them with her over protective tendencies. This causes some annoyance and frustration on the part of her 'children'.
If she cant protect someone she becomes highly depressed and frustrated. She also has a very large stubborn streak, as the other gods can attest too. She once refused to leave her temple for months when her beloved daughter Persephone was kidnapped by Hades, which almost led to the ruin and starvation of mankind when no vegetation would grow. Now every year this happens when her daughter goes back to the underworld. She mourns her loss for those months far more then anyone should by this time, which causes the mortal world to experience Winter.
Demeter, unlike most of the other gods, prefers to live among her temples. She enjoys being in close proximity to those who worship or need her and interact with them far more often then usual.
She is also known as the Poppy goddess or Corn Mother who blesses harvesters.
Her 9 children are as follows: Persephone, Despoina, Arion, Plutus, Philomelus, Eubuleus, Chrysothemis, Amphitheus 1, Dmia. The only immortal children of these are Persephone,Plutus, Despoina, Dmia, and Arion (an immortal stallion).
